Intern or Volunteer

Summer Interns (youth 18-30 years old).  The application period is closed. Please check back in late summer for fall internship opportunities!

High School Summer Interns You will have the opportunity to plan and lead workshops for students while also learning how to run a productive small farm and organize a community sustainability initiative!  You will also help to maintain the garden, engage parents, teachers, and community members in our project, and plan fundraising and community-building events and activities.  During the summer of 2013, the time commitment for high school summer interns is 1-2 days per week on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 8:20am-4pm from June 18th-August 16th.  Apply to become a high school summer intern here.

Volunteers of all ages and ability levels are welcome and appreciated!  Do you have a skill that you would like to share with local youth related to gardening, cooking, nutrition, art, the environment, biking, or sustainability?  Consider helping to plan a workshop or even leading your own!  Do you have experience in marketing, graphic design, carpentry, or event planning?  Share your talents with us!  Summer volunteers need to commit to a set schedule of 1-2 days per week.  Apply to become a summer volunteer here.

K-12 Students  This spring, we are offering our first after school program for 5th-8th graders called Growing Local: Planting and Cooking in the garden.  More information can be found here.  Our Summer Garden Camp is open to students from 5-14 years old.  We also offer internships for high school students on a case-by-case basis. More information about the summer garden camp can be found here.

What’s the difference between Participants and Summer Program Student Participants?

    • growingfoodandsustainability says:

Participants are youth 18-30 years old who are helping to run the Summer Program either full or part-time this summer. Summer Program Student Participants register for and participate in the Summer Program (minimally two days per week for 3 hours each day, see the Summer Program page for more details). Thanks!

Is being a participant a job position or just volunteering? How much is the stipend and how is it based on financial need?

    • growingfoodandsustainability says:

Part-time participation is volunteer-based, but we did have stipends available for full-time participants this summer who had financial need (meaning they would not have been financially able to participate without the stipend).
